11th International Summer School on Deep Learning

Miriam Cindy Maurer (Clinical Decision Support System Group) participated in the 11th International Summer School on Deep Learning, DeepLearn 2024, from 15 to 19 July, representing the Institute of Medical Informatics in Porto, Portugal. The event attracted PhD students, postdocs and experts from all over the world and provided deep insights into current topics such as Graph Neural Networks, Computer Vision, Large Language Models and Trustworthy AI. Renowned speakers included Jiawei Han from the University of Illinois and Katia Sycara from Carnegie Mellon University.

She was particularly impressed by the sessions on Graph Neural Networks, where she was able to discuss with Nitesh Chawla and Michalis Vazirgiannis and not only gain a deeper insight into the topic, but also learn about new literature and network architectures.

An essential part of the Summer School was the exchange between the participants and the professors. Various opportunities were created for this purpose, such as the "Dinner with Strangers", where the participants were able to enjoy the typical food of Porto Francesinha.
