3rd Summer School at UMG-MeDIC
On July 30, 2025, UMG-MeDIC successfully held its third “Summer School” as part of the FAIRRMeDIC project.
The junior research group of the FAIRRMeDIC project, led by Professor Tibor Kesztyüs and PD Dr. Dorothea Kesztyüs, consists of doctoral students in medicine and medical informatics. Research is being conducted on current medical issues using medical data from UMG-MeDIC and on the problem of the reliability of medical data for reuse in research. The members of the junior research group presented the current status quo of their scientific work in interesting short lectures. After each lecture, there was an opportunity for follow-up questions and discussions, which was also used.
This year's keynote speaker was Professor Dr. Otto Rienhoff, former director of the Department of Medical Informatics and active strategic advisor to the UMG Executive Board. His presentation addressed the current cross-location issue of weighing the dynamics, strengths, and risks of mega data collections against the backdrop of a global explosion of knowledge, not only in the field of medicine. One answer to this challenge, both in terms of the vast amount of available data and the resulting increase in knowledge, lies in consistent quality management.
The “Summer School” will be held annually from 2023 through 2026. The ‘FAIRRMeDIC’ project is funded by the former BMBF, now BMFTR, as part of the federal “Medical Informatics Initiative” program. The Summer School is aimed at the scientific community of medical informatics specialists, but also at medical professionals and computer scientists as an interface to medical informatics. The aim is to share knowledge on the current state of medical informatics, focusing on the project's focus – in this case, the reliability of routine medical data for reuse in medical and scientific research.
