6th Night of Knowledge in Göttingen

There were long lines at the "FAIR Data Fair" organized by the Department of Medical Informatics during the 6th Night of Science on June 21, 2025. An incredible 800-1000 visitors took the opportunity to discover medical informatics in a playful way last Saturday: Whether it was Pseudonymization Jenga, ICD-10 Memory, “Schnittstellensalat”, or quizzes and word puzzles on data quality and medical informatics – all nine activities at our "FAIR Data Fair" were in constant demand from 5 p.m. until midnight. Visitors could synchronize their heart rates with wearables, take home their blood pressure as a FHIR resource, search for hidden metadata, learn about the electronic patient record, and make their opinions on it visible. Some even managed to collect medical data at eight booths run by our cooperation partners.
We were especially delighted by the large number of curious and playful children, whom we inspired with our stations to compete for the top prize at the prize wheel and to experience the diversity of our topics in a fun way. From now on, you’ll surely find our institute’s magnets on some refrigerators in Göttingen!
But our institute team, both on-site and during preparations, also gained valuable new experiences in planning, crafting, and interacting with the interested public. The challenge and excitement of presenting the topics of our daily work in an accessible and playful manner was both stimulating and demanding. And we already have new ideas for next time—because medical informatics is even more fun this way than it already is!
