BVM 2026

German Conference on Medical Image Computing

From March 15 to 17, 2026, the annual BVM 2026 – German Conference on Medical Image Computing took place in the Auditorium Maximum (Audimax) of the University of Lübeck. The University of Lübeck, together with the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), hosted the event.

Professor Dr. Dagmar Krefting (Director of the Department of Medical Informatics) and Professor Dr. Katharina Breininger (Julius-Maximilians-University of Würzburg) moderated Session 3, "Foundation Models." Professor Krefting also led the meeting of the Medical Image and Signal Processing Working Group of the German Society for Medical Informatics, Biometry and Epidemiology (GMDS).

Since 1993, the BVM (Image Processing for Medicine) conference has brought together researchers from medicine, computer science, and engineering annually. The conference aims to present current research findings and to deepen interdisciplinary exchange between science, industry, and clinical practice. Particular emphasis is placed on promoting young researchers. Artificial intelligence and machine learning are key topics. Furthermore, the BVM covers the entire spectrum of medical image processing. This includes, in particular, the development and evaluation of algorithms, hardware and software systems, as well as their application and integration into everyday clinical practice.
