33rd DGSM Annual Meeting 2025 in Hanover

Under the motto “Small perception – big wave,” the 33rd Annual Meeting of the DGSM (German Society for Sleep Research and Sleep Medicine) took place in Hanover. Twenty-one members of the Somnolink consortium attended the conference in Hanover, including Prof. Dr. Dagmar Krefting (Somnolink project coordinator), Friederike Seyderhelm, Srushhti Trivedi, Tabea Steinbrinker, Philip Zaschke, and Miriam Maurer from the Department for Medical Informatics.

At a data science booth, sleep experts were introduced to current data science methods and discussed possible applications in sleep medicine. There was also an opportunity to talk to sleep medicine specialists about the new Somnolink user interface, which enables the interoperable exchange of sleep data.

Prof. Dagmar Krefting and her team also presented several conference papers.

Numerous presentations from the Somnolink project focused on the use of (explainable) AI in OSA sleep medicine (OSA, Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome). Regulatory issues such as the EU AI Act were highlighted, as well as new scientific approaches and practical applications from everyday clinical practice.

  • KI and Sleep -Hot New Topics, Prof. Dr. Dagmar Krefting
  • Analysis of clinical data for early detection of OSA – Technical perspective, Miriam Maurer
  • Recontacting with secondary diagnosis – ethical perspective, Srushhti Trivedi
  • Transparency instead of a black box: explainable AI using the example of sleep analysis, Philip Zaschke

The annual conference included the inaugural meeting of the patient advisory group.

The Somnolink patient advisory group was established to gain a better understanding of what is particularly important to OSA patients and their families. At the first meeting, the project was presented and insights were gained into the current situation and the mood of patients throughout the treatment process. This enabled key problems and current challenges to be identified.

A big thank you goes to all Somnolink members for their active participation.
