First Institute Day of Medical Informatics 2025
The first Institute Day of the Institute of Medical Informatics this year began with an exciting keynote speech by Prof. Dr. Marcus Jeschke from the DPZ, who gave insights into his research into auditory neuroscience under the title "Monkeys with special ears". Afterwards, the institute's employees presented their current projects in the form of scientific posters, software demonstrations and even a live demonstration of an algorithm for heart age estimation using an ECG from an Apple Watch. The lively mutual interest led to intensive discussions and the discovery of some unexpected thematic overlaps, which will further promote cooperation and the exchange of expertise within and between the working groups in the future.
In the afternoon, Prof. Dr. Julian Kunkel, head of the GWDG's Computing working group, concluded the scientific program with a keynote speech on "What you always wanted to know about Secure Processing Environments (SPE) and Trusted Research Environments (TRE), and never dared asking", followed by a lively discussion. The last official item on the program was the farewell to Prof. Dr. Anne-Christin Hauschild, who has taken up a professorship at the University of Giessen. We wish her every success in her new endeavours! The day was concluded with a performance by our institute band, who provided a new song alongside familiar classics to an enthusiastic audience. The Institute Day was a success and provided an excellent opportunity for networking and exchanging ideas. We are already looking forward to the second Institute Day in autumn 2025.
