IEEE-EMBS International Summer School on Advanced Data Analytics in Physiology in Pisa

International perspectives on the heart-brain axis: Participation of Philip Hempel and Lennart Graf at the IEEE-EMBS Summer School

Last week, PhD students Philip Hempel and Lennart Graf from the Department of Medical Informatics at the University Medical Center Göttingen took part in the IEEE-EMBS Summer School on Advanced Data Analytics in Physiology in Pisa. The Summer School brought together young scientists from various countries to discuss current methods and issues in physiological signal processing - with a particular focus on the analysis of the heart-brain axis.

In addition to fundamental concepts of signal processing, the focus was on the application of proven methods in complex physiological systems. Contributions from Karin Schiecke (Jena), Pablo Laguna (Zaragoza) and other experts provided valuable insights into different methodological approaches and research perspectives. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of robust signal processing methods, which also play a central role in current research projects.

Participation in the Summer School offered Philip Hempel, in his role as Student Representative of the IEEE EMBS, and Lennart Graf the opportunity to network with international colleagues and discuss scientific issues that are also being worked on at the Göttingen Heart & Brain Center Göttingen (HBCG). The intensive exchange with leading minds in the field of signal processing strengthens the scientific work of the Department of Medical Informatics and supports its integration into the international research community on heart-brain interaction.

The Summer School in Pisa once again highlighted the relevance and topicality of heart-brain research - a focus that the University Medical Center Göttingen is actively shaping with the HBCG and its researchers.
