Let's connect was the message throughout MIE2025, here in the FAIR interface panel with Ulrich Sax. (c) NFDI4Health

MIE 2025 brought together experts from the fields of medical informatics, healthcare research, IT and digital healthcare. The international diversity of the participants was particularly striking - with contributions from countries such as the Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Korea and Canada as well as a strong presence from Germany.

Keynote speech by Charles Friedman: Building bridges
In his keynote speech, Charles Friedman emphasized that healthcare infrastructures should not be seen as isolated “single oar boats”, but as a “bridge” connecting different stakeholders. This metaphor underpinned the need for all stakeholders to work together to create interoperable systems - a central idea that characterized the entire event.

Panel: FAIR interfaces for more interoperability
A central highlight was the panel of NFDI4Health and the GMDS AG FAIR, which dealt with the requirements for FAIR application interfaces. The starting point were examples from the Göttingen research data infrastructure and the interface extensions of FAIRDOM-SEEK, which were carried out as part of the NFDI4Health Local Data Hubs. The discussion highlighted current interface models for the European Health Data Space and the practical challenges for the community.

Workshop: Local data hubs for a sustainable research infrastructure
NFDI4Health also organized a user workshop on setting up local data hubs. The workshop brought together numerous committed participants and provided valuable insights into the current status and best practices. The interactive demonstrations in particular led to exciting discussions and provided important feedback for further development.

Conclusion: Important networking of the global healthcare and IT community
The MIE 2025 was a successful exchange on the digital transformation of the healthcare system. With its workshops and panels, NFDI4Health made an important contribution to promoting interoperability and a FAIRE research data infrastructure. We look forward to the next steps and further collaboration.
