Philip Hempel attended the 50th “Computing in Cardiology” to represent the biosignal processing group of the Department of Medical Informatics in Atlanta. He presented two conference paper from the group and discussed their recent work with researchers from all over the world. The first publication interprets electrocardiograms as timeseries to improve detection of cardiac ischemia whereas the second uses electric measurements of the brain waves to predict recovery after cardiac arrest. The later was a contribution to the George B. Moody Challenge where our joint team from Göttingen and Dresden could even win a price. Next to numerous inspiring conversations there was also space to visit the historical places of Atlanta to honor their achievements. The spirit of the city can be interpreted as both, the ongoing need to fight for social equality and meanwhile keep a positive attitude of life.
