Our institute has also been actively present this year at the DMEA satellite event organized by the work group Clinical Decision Support System in Healthcare of the GMDS. Last Monday, the 8th of April, two lectures were presented and discussed with national and international researchers and developers. The first lecture presented the results and challenges of using routine data from health insurance to develop machine learning models for predicting, amongst others, the risk of mortality (project: KI-Thrust) and including XAI approaches. The lecture was designed by Prof. Dr. Anne-Christin Hauschild and given by Jacqueline Metsch. The second lecture was about the development of CDS in medicine. Specifically, an overview of clinical decision support systems, which have been recently developed and implemented in clinical setups, including the project ENSURE, was presented. At the end of the session, a rich dialogue on knowledge-based and non-knowledge-based CDSS showed the increased necessity of identifying the use case in which each type of CDSS will suit best. Additionally, it was pointed out why complex cases with a vast knowledge basis and using mixing data (image and tabular) explain the increment in hybrid systems published in the last few years.
